Victor Wembanyama drops 100 points in three games as Spurs stay undefeated

The San Antonio Spurs took care of business once again Sunday night, defeating the Brooklyn Nets to remain undefeated through the opening week of the regular season. So far, few NBA storylines have been louder than those surrounding Spurs center Victor Wembanyama, who continues to showcase dramatic year-over-year growth.

Wembanyama has managed to outdo himself in nearly every outing. In the season opener against Anthony Davis and the Dallas Mavericks, the 7-foot-4 phenom finished with 40 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks, setting the tone early. In his second game, he nearly notched a triple-double, scoring 29 points to go along with 11 rebounds and a staggering nine blocks, overwhelming Dallas in the paint.

On Sunday against the Nets, Wembanyama picked up where he left off. He scored 31 points with 14 rebounds and six blocks, while adding four assists and three steals. His ability to impact both ends of the floor continues to elevate San Antonio’s ceiling.

Through three games, Wembanyama has totaled 100 points, averaging 33.3 per contest. While his increased scoring volume is partially influenced by the absence of All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox, who has yet to make his season debut due to a right hamstring injury, Wembanyama’s production reflects a dramatic offensive leap. Last season, he averaged a career-high 24.5 points per game after posting 21.4 as a rookie.

Although dominant defense was expected, few predicted such rapid growth as a three-level scorer. The Spurs will put their undefeated record on the line tonight as they face the Toronto Raptors on the second night of a back-to-back.
