Liverpool’s Under 21s came away with a 4-1 win in the mini-Merseyside derby.
The Reds’ first-team are going through a rough patch right now, with four consecutive losses leaving a lot to be desired.
Things were also not going the best for the academy either as the U21s were also winless in their last four, although they turned this around with a victory over Everton.

Keyrol Figueroa scored a hat-trick to help them breeze to victory, although there was another star who had a game to remember, suggesting he could get another chance with the first-team after a long spell away.

Kaide Gordon shines for the U21s
Liverpool’s academy is filled to the brim with top talent, especially in attack, with Kaide Gordon just one who is held in very high regard.
He has barely featured for the first-team since making his debut in 2021, with Arne Slot yet to give him his chance to prove himself.
However, he has been quietly working away in the background and shining for Rob Page’s side, with the 21-year-old registering two assists against Everton.
That is now three goal involvements in his last five games, with the Englishman, who was once labelled as ‘special’ by Virgil van Dijk, becoming an important figure in the side.

He has played on both flanks and as an attacking midfielder, showing how his versatility can come in handy, with consistent performances perhaps being enough to catch Slot’s eye.
Liverpool’s youth may be short of chances this season
In previous years, the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Slot have been able to give some young stars a run out in cup competitions due to things going so well in the league.
However, recent performances mean that Liverpool cannot really afford not to field their strongest XI, or at least close to it, meaning youngsters may find chances hard to come by.
The Reds’ next game is a Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace, a game in which a little bit of rotation could normally occur.
But for this one, Slot will likely put out a very strong side to try and bounce back, meaning someone like Gordon will have to wait a little while longer to be given another chance.
