Jorgen Strand Larsen issues statement as things get even worse after missing out on Newcastle…

In an alternative universe, Jorgen Strand Larsen would be preparing to play for Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

Instead, the Norwegian striker is facing up to the reality of being bottom of the Premier League with Wolves after missing out on a transfer to Newcastle United.

Jorgen Strand Larsen was one of the Magpies’ top targets during the summer, with Eddie Howe’s side making multiple bids for the giant forward.

Geordie Boot Boys reported that Strand Larsen wanted to join Newcastle, but a deal did not come to fruition. Every offer that Newcastle made was turned down, with £55million not enough to get the 25-year-old out of Molineux.

Since missing out on a move to Tyneside, not much has gone to plan for Strand Larsen.

Jorgen Strand Larsen vows to improve after latest Wolves defeat

Wolves are seriously struggling this season, and their start to the 2025/26 campaign hit a new low on Sunday afternoon.

They were at home to fellow strugglers Burnley, but it was Scott Parker’s side who picked up all three points.

Lyle Foster scored a 95th minute goal to make it 3-2 to the Clarets, leaving Wolves in 20th position with just two points on the board.

It has been a desperately poor start to the season, and Strand Larsen has now issued a statement to the Wolves faithful following the latest disappointing defeat.

“A sad day for everyone who loves Wolves,” he wrote on X.

“We understand the frustration and the disbelief after the game, we still want to thank all of you for showing up and backing the team as much as you can. We need to do better, starting with each player looking themselves in the mirror to improve.

“Definitely me, as I’m always the first one to look at myself for improvement. I love this club and I haven’t showed enough this season so far, as I also have been pushing through an injury.

“Wolves never give up, and now it’s the time to reset and keep on going. So much to play for still and no time to be feeling down! See you soon, thank you.”

How Jorgen Strand Larsen compares to Newcastle United’s strikers this season

Strand Larsen has been incredibly honest when it comes to his own performances. There is a clear desire to do better and help the team, despite it being well documented that Strand Larsen wanted to join Newcastle United.

He did not get his wish, and must now focus on scoring the goals that will keep Wolves in the Premier League. That started on Sunday, with Strand Larsen scoring his first league goal of the campaign. Unfortunately for him, it did not mean anything.

In comparison to the strikers that Newcastle United have at their disposal instead of Strand Larsen, it is only Yoane Wissa who is performing worse than the former Celta Vigo man. That is only because he has not featured, with Wissa suffering a knee injury almost immediately after becoming a Newcastle United player.

Nick Woltemade is outscoring Strand Larsen, boasting five goals in all competitions compared to three.

Even Will Osula is performing better, with the 22-year-old providing four goal contributions. And that does not include the role he played in Newcastle’s winner against Fulham on Saturday.

Jorgen Strand Larsen 9 3 0

Nick Woltemade 10 5 0
