Robert Sanchez could be replaced as Chelsea’s No.1 next year, according to reports.
Since joining the Blues from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023, Sanchez has drawn criticism after making some high-profile mistakes in goal.
In the summer, Chelsea tried to sign Mike Maignan, but they failed to agree a deal with AC Milan in the end.
The Club World Cup winners are still thought to be interested in the 30-year-old; however, he is not the only shot-stopper on their radar, it seems.

Chelsea confident Marc-Andre ter Stegen would be Robert Sanchez upgrade
A report from Sky Sport CH claims that, as well as Maignan, Chelsea are also keen on Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
According to the outlet, Chelsea are interested in a loan deal and believe that the German would be a “significant improvement” on Sanchez.
In his prime, Ter Stegen was one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but he has barely played over the past year because of injury.
The Germany international is yet to make an appearance for Barcelona this season and could be coming to the end of his time at the Spotify Camp Nou.
At Chelsea, Filip Jorgensen had suitors during the summer and is not a regular right now, so his situation is another one to keep an eye on, not just Sanchez’s.

Why Marc-Andre ter Stegen could be the ideal goalkeeper signing for Chelsea
If Chelsea do feel they need to bring in a new shot-stopper to replace Sanchez, Ter Stegen would be a very logical signing.
Again, at his peak, there were few goalkeepers on the same level as Ter Stegen. Now 33 years of age, the Blues would not have to worry about him blocking Mike Penders’ pathway into the first team either.
After saving a penalty against Lyon over the weekend, Chelsea fans want Penders back at the club. Having him and Ter Stegen as their first and second-choice goalkeepers could be the perfect combination, with the former eventually succeeding the latter as the team’s No1.
