Bayern Munich are “worried” that Liverpool target Dayot Upamecano could leave the Bundesliga champions when his contract expires at the end of the season, according to reports.
The Frenchman can start talking to foreign clubs about a free transfer in just two months’ time, and while there is still a feeling that he will end up signing an extension, journalist Graeme Bailey told TBRFootball that a move to the Premier League is not off the table:
“In England, we are thinking and talking about Marc Guehi, but in Europe, the name many are talking about is French star Dayot Upamecano – who has really been looking the part at Bayern Munich under Vincent Kompany.”

“Speaking to sources at a couple of Premier League clubs, they actually believe Upamecano is more likely to stay than leave. I can tell you Bayern are really worried that Upamecano will have offers presented to him in early 2026 if an agreement with Bayern is not reached. And Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City are all very much in the mix for him; they all rate him highly.”
Upamecano would strengthen the Reds’ defence
It’s fair to say that Arne Slot’s side have been awful at the back so far this season, and the need for reinforcements at centre-half is growing by the day.
While Upamecano won’t be on the market in January, he would be a good addition on a free, especially if Marc Guehi does opt for a move elsewhere.
The Merseyside club are still in the mix to snap up the Crystal Palace captain, but there is fierce competition from the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and City.
Following Liverpool from abroad
After suffering four consecutive defeats, this is a defining period of the season for the Reds as they look to get themselves back on track.
