Damien Woody names best QB from 2024 NFL Draft class

The 2024 NFL Draft class featured a slew of quarterbacks with high expectations.

But there is one that stands out among the rest to Damien Woody.

“Drake Maye is the best of that outstanding class,” the former Patriots offensive lineman said on “Get Up.” “I’ve been on this show for weeks now saying that Drake Maye is playing like a top five quarterback, and he absolutely is doing that right now.”

“Listen, Drake Maye has the second highest completion percentage in NFL history through eight games, second highest completion percentage in NFL history, only trailing Drew Brees right now,“ he continued. ”The man is doing it with his arm. He’s doing it with his legs. With Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniels coaching him right now, this man is just looking outstanding.”

Maye turned in another strong performance in the New England Patriots’ 32-13 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The quarterback went 18-of-24 for 282 yards and three touchdowns. Even though he was sacked six times — five times by Myles Garrett — Maye continued to showcase his poise, accuracy and ability to find an open receiver.

The UNC product heard “MVP!” chants from the Gillette Stadium crowd throughout the game.

“It’s been really cool to see the difference from last year to this year. Man, it’s been a journey and the fans have been through it the last couple years,” Maye said after the win. “Credit to them. ... The best fans in the league and they continue to show out every week.”

Woody has been high on Maye, calling him a top-five quarterback in the NFL. Former Patriots QB Cam Newton disagreed with his co-host, saying he wants to see Maye do what he’s been doing against “well and capable competition on a consistent basis.”

Sunday marked the seventh straight game Maye reached at least 200 passing yards with a quarterback rating of at least 100.

Only four other quarterbacks have reached that feat.

Peyton Manning (2004)

Tom Brady (2007)

Aaron Rodgers (2011, 2020)

Patrick Mahomes (2018)

The win marked the fifth straight for New England as it sits atop the AFC East standings. Maye has now surpassed his win total from the 2024 season when the Patriots finished 4-13.
