The Man United star was one of the goal scorers against Brighton on Saturday afternoon

Despite a late scare, United looked much the better team; they were pressing high, putting Brighton under serious pressure, and they were also efficient when on the ball and in transition. Many United fans may be starting to get excited about the potential this season, as they are now sitting sixth in the Premier League table.

Goals on Saturday came from Matheus Cunha, Casemiro and Bryan Mbeumo, with the latter scoring twice; his second goal really killed the game off in the 97th minute. Cunha and Mbeumo gave what was arguably their best performance since moving to Old Trafford in the summer.

Bryan Mbeumo hailed in Troy Deeney’s Team of the Week

Mbeumo scored United’s last two goals, but he was also a real bright spark throughout the game, carrying the ball with pace. He also caused Brighton a lot of problems when on the edge of the box, as he was the most likely to make something happen for Amorim’s side.

After a superb performance, the former Brentford star was hailed in Troy Deeney’s Premier League team of the week. Deeney wrote for BBC Sport: “I wanted to put Matheus Cunha in, but Mbeumo got that second goal. You can see he's found his feet now, he's comfortable, the shirt is not a problem, playing at Manchester United is not a problem.

“Him and Cunha are the reason they are going to be able to fly up the league. Both of them are talented, both of them are exceptional. The two goals Mbeumo scored were magnificent.

“When it got a little bit ropey towards the end, that chance fell to him and I don't think anyone thought he was going to miss. Huge from him, huge for Manchester United.”

Ruben Amorim hails “working machine” Bryan Mbeumo

After the game, it wasn’t just Deeney who praise Mbeumo’s performance, as Man United boss Ruben Amorim also hailed his £65m summer signing. He described him as a “working machine” in his post-match interview.

Amorim was quoted in the Guardian: “He’s a working machine. He’s so good in transitions. He’s improving when we are organising the final third.” Amorim was full of praise for how well Mbeumo linked up with Amad Diallo, who played as a right-wing back against Brighton.

He said: “[It] is really hard to beat these two guys because they change positions, they are really fast, they are good in one against one.”

It seems from his post-match reaction that Amorim always had a plan to see Mbeumo in his current role, which is very fluid on the right-hand side with Amad, who is much more of an attacker than a defender too. If United can keep it up, they could be an electric partnership for the rest of the season.
