Todd Boehly is learning his lesson as owner's involvement with Chelsea is revealed - jouenalist

Todd Boehly’s name is never far away from any big news surrounding Chelsea, however his current influence on the first team squad seems to have undergone some change in recent years.

Boehly has been one of the owners of Chelsea since 2022, and has not always been a popular figure despite the magnitude of money injected into the club.

Chelsea fans have protested Boehly’s ownership outside of Stamford Bridge, however listening to the American will convince people that he is looking for success in his role.

The club invested big money in signings over the summer again, however failed to sign a new centre-back to meet the demands of Enzo Maresca after the injury to Levi Colwill.

Todd Boehly not micromanaging anymore at Chelsea

Since the new owners came in, they have been accused of taking a more hands-on approach than Roman Abramovich did when he was in charge.

Insider Graeme Bailey has claimed though that the ownership are not looking to be involved in the day-to-day managing of the club, and there is still full trust from the Chelsea ownership in Maresca.

He said: “There’s not a deep unrest. They really trust Enzo Maresca the hierarchy. They like what he’s doing and to be fair he’s having to cope with Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin, who are not up to level they want at Chelsea.

“When Colwill got injured, Maresca really came out and said he wanted a centre-half, and he’s been proven right. He’s one of these coaches who made a few too many changes.

“I think they’re very happy with Maresca’s management of this squad. It’s not an easy job.

“I hear the hierarchydon’t get involved, which is a real positive. They don’t micromanage the squad. From what I’m told, they’re not tapping him on the shoulder saying ‘we think Estevao should be starting today’. Todd Boehly isn’t doing that.”

Boehly’s role seems to be diminishing at Chelsea

A lot has changed since the first summer transfer window when Boehly was at the club, where he was playing the role of Sporting Director.

The American used to always be in attendance at Stamford Bridge for Premier League matches too, however so far has only been spotted at the ground for a handful of games.

It seems as if after a few years at the club there is now an understanding from those at the very top that there is only so much impact they can have on what’s going on during the 90 minutes, and they will do well to continue to back Maresca to lead the side forwards.
