David Moyes is at risk of seeing Everton spiral unless he shakes things up in his team. The Toffees fell to a 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon at Hill Dickinson Stadium. That loss was the second in a row and means that the Merseysiders have now won just one of their last seven fixtures in all competitions.
Sitting in 14th spot in the Premier League table, Everton have a six-point buffer on the drop zone but risk being dragged into the basement unless things show signs of improving.
Moyes himself is not under pressure, but with a number of his players failing to deliver, it seems that the time is now for him to change things in order to find a winning formula.
Moyes Needs to Become More Ruthless
David Moyes
Everton's position in the Premier League table is nothing to be sniffed at. Most supporters would, I'm sure, be delighted with a season that saw them finish safely in mid-table with little risk of being dragged into a relegation battle. That said, certain frailties are already starting to become apparent.
Excluding the three goals registered by Tottenham, Everton's defence has been pretty solid this season. A total of 12 goals conceded puts them in the top half of the table for their defensive record this term. In attack, however, things look a little bit more bleak. That's because only three sides - the current bottom three of Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers - have scored less this season.
Jack Grealish has a goal and four assists to his name, while Iliman Ndiaye has notched three goals and an assist. If it wasn't for the duo, the Toffees' prospects would be far bleaker.
However, it's so important that Moyes can get the rest of his team contributing. Beto has scored just once in nine Premier League games, a disappointing tally, with his all-round contribution not much better. As a result, Thierno Barry must be due an opportunity amid claims that Everton must go all-out to sign Ivan Toney.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jake O'Brien have also struggled of late and should be dropped. With Merlin Rohl and Charly Alcaraz waiting for their chance, it may be that Moyes has to shuffle his pack around in order to freshen things up.
There's no doubting the quality that Everton have at their disposal, but Moyes must be proactive in changing things when it simply isn't clicking. Beto, Dewsbury-Hall and O'Brien are on contracts worth a combined total of £185,000-per-week before bonuses and their respective places in the starting line-up should be called into question as the Toffees seek an upturn in fortunes.
