Local insider Fabrício Lopes has claimed that Jhon Arias would be open to joining Flamengo if he decides to leave Wolves and return to South America.
According to the Brazilian reporter, the Rio de Janeiro side – rivals to his former club, Fluminense – have not yet made any approach for the winger, but will wait until the end of the European season in June to assess the conditions and potential transfer values involved.
This isn’t the first time the Arias-Flamengo link has appeared in the Brazilian press. Rumours about a possible reunion have surfaced on several occasions since his departure from Fluminense.
But this is the first report suggesting that the player himself is willing to make the move, contradicting previous reports.
That information comes as the Brazilian press grows increasingly critical of Arias’ time in England. The outlet BolaVip, for instance, recently described his move to Wolves as a mistake, saying the Colombian star “ended up in a cold situation” since swapping Rio for the Premier League.
It also pointed out his “unbelievable” missed chance face to face with the goalkeeper during Wolves’ latest defeat, emphasising how difficult the adaptation has been.
The newspaper noted that, while his former club is living “hopeful days” in Brazil, Arias has “failed to convince” at Molineux and already faces speculation about a possible return to Brazil next season.
Even when calling his transfer the “dream of playing in the Premier League”, the story used the phrase with a touch of irony. A reflection of how the Brazilian media now see Arias’ move: an experience that promised much, but is yet to deliver.
