The New York Knicks suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, falling to the Miami Heat 115-107. The loss came in large part thanks to their struggles from beyond the arc.
The Knicks attempted a team-record 54 three-pointers in the loss to Miami. However they only knocked down 15 of those, good for a 27.8 percent mark from downtown. The bench unit of Tyler Kolek, Landry Shamet, Josh Hart, Guerschon Yabusele, and Jordan Clarkson combined to shoot a porous 1 for 18 from three.
The Knicks have struggled from three in each of the first three games of the season despite holding a 2-1 record with wins over the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics. That trend has continued through the third game of the season against the Heat.
Hart — who shot 0-2 from three — spoke with reporters after the game about the quality of shots his team has been taking so far.
“We have good shooters,” Hart said. “We're pushing the pace…gotta make sure we're set & ready. We knew this was gonna be a tough one, our 1st game having some adversity, we'll continue to build.”
The Knicks will now turn their attention to the Milwaukee Bucks when they face off with the 2021 NBA champions on Tuesday. They’ll also look to get their three-point percentage in better shape while the season is still young.
