Thunder offer Chet Holmgren update ahead of Monday's clash vs. Mavericks

The Oklahoma City Thunder will aim to improve to 4-0 in Monday's matchup against the Dallas Mavericks at 8:30 p.m. ET, and they'll have one of their top options available.

After being listed as questionable due to soreness in his lower back, Chet Holmgren has been upgraded to available, according to the NBA’s official injury report. The Thunder, however, will remain without Jalen Williams, Alex Caruso, Isaiah Joe, Nikola Topic, Kenrich Williams and Thomas Sorber.

Holmgren has been a mainstay on the injury report recently due to the back issue, though he has yet to miss time. According to Clemente Almanza of USA Today, the third-year big man also dislocated his thumb on a block attempt in Saturday's win over the Atlanta Hawks, but he was able to return for the second half, securing his second consecutive double-double.

Chet Holmgren aims to build on strong start

Despite exiting Saturday's contest, Holmgren returned to finish with 31 points, 11 rebounds, three steals, one assist and one block in 27 minutes. The 23-year-old also shot 6-for-8 from three-point range, tying his career-high mark in made triples.

With Williams sidelined as he recovers from offseason wrist surgery, Holmgren has gotten off to a strong start as Oklahoma City's second option on the offensive end. Through three regular-season games, he's averaging 24.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.7 steals in 35.0 minutes per game. The Gonzaga product is also shooting 56.1 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from beyond the arc.

Holmgren will look to continue his impressive play in Monday's contest against Dallas, which is the front end of a back-to-back set. Holmgren's status will again be worth monitoring ahead of Tuesday's game against the Sacramento Kings.
