When is Jayden Daniels coming back? Injury update, return timeline for Commanders QB

The Washington Commanders are facing an uphill climb in the Week 8 game versus the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night thanks to an injury to quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Daniels sustained a hamstring injury in the Week 7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys and didn't practice at all this past week before being ruled out.

Marcus Mariota will once again take the reins of the offense for what will be his third start this season. The Commanders are 1-1 in his previous two starts.

Here's what we know about Daniels' return timeline.

When is Jayden Daniels coming back?

Daniels has thankfully avoided a long-term injury, head coach Dan Quinn told reporters during the week.

However, there stands a chance he won't be back in Week 9, either, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"I just think a guy that's had a knee injury, a hamstring injury... hamstrings, you've got to be really careful with them," Schefter said on The Pat McAfee Show. "Look at how careful Lamar (Jackson) has been.

"I won't be surprised if we don't see Jayden again on Sunday night (in Week 9)."

It isn't clear if Daniels has the same level of hamstring injury Jackson does, but the Ravens sat their superstar quarterback for three straight games, and there was a bye week sandwiched in between those games.

That just goes to show how unpredictable hamstring injuries can be, so it's hard to gauge just how long Daniels will be sidelined.

If Daniels doesn't return in Week 9, the next time we could see him is in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions. The Commanders have a Week 11 matchup against the Miami Dolphins and then have a bye in Week 12.

Considering how important Daniels is to not only this season, but to the franchise's future, it wouldn't be shocking to see Washington take the safe approach and hold Daniels out for a second straight game next week.
