The New York Giants were dealt yet another devastating injury blow on Sunday after rookie running back Cam Skattebo sustained a gruesome ankle injury against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The injury occurred in the second quarter and it was immediately clear that the rookie had sustained something significant. He was eventually carted off the field and later had emergency surgery in Philadelphia to fix his dislocated ankle.
On Monday afternoon, the Giants provided an update on Skattebo and revealed that he has now been discharged from the hospital and will "begin rehab immediately."
"Cam Skattebo underwent successful surgery on his dislocated ankle last night at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital Presbyterian campus. He has been discharged from the hospital and will begin rehab immediately," the Giants said.
Now, Skattebo begins what will be a lengthy recovery process.
To get an idea of just how long he might be out, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin suffered a dislocated ankle in Week 7 of last season and didn't return until Week 4 of the 2025 campaign, which is about an 11-month recovery.
“All went well, he’s recovering, and obviously he’ll be missed,” Giants head coach Daboll said, per Madelyn Burke of the Giants’ radio team. “On the road to recovery . . . he might be out [of the hospital] today, but he’s got a road ahead of him.”
This just stinks for Skattebo and the Giants.
The rookie had shown a ton of promise and was providing a much-needed spark for Big Blue, along with fellow rookie Jaxson Dart.
Now, it could be close to a full calendar year before we see Skattebo running defenders over again.
