Giants' Cam Skattebo has uplifting message in first comments since ankle injury

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo has released a statement on social media addressing his gruesome ankle injury in Week 8.

Skattebo sustained a dislocated ankle in the Week 8 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and had emergency surgery on Sunday. He is now out of the hospital and ready to begin his rehab, the Giants said on Monday.

Not long after that, Skattebo took to social media to thanks everyone who showed concern for him and took care of him, from family and friends, to fans and hospital staff.

"Thank you everyone for the support!! Surgery went well. I just want to thank the city of Philly for taking the best care of me. Every moment I spent in the hospital with family and friends I felt loved and supported in every way," Skattebo wrote.

"Thank you to the doctors, surgeons, and staff that did their best work on me. This is just the beginning of my journey and I can’t wait to show you guys all about it!!! GOD has a plan for me , stick the course and it will all work itself out , BRB," Skattebo added.

Good to see the young man staying upbeat in what is no doubt an awful situation for him.

"Cam Skattebo underwent successful surgery on his dislocated ankle last night at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital Presbyterian campus," the Giants said on Monday in a statement. "He has been discharged from the hospital and will begin rehab immediately."

Now, Skattebo will begin a rehab process that could take upwards of a year, which means he's no lock to be ready for the start of the 2026 campaign. To be clear, no recovery timetable has been set for the rookie running back, that is just a rough estimate.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout Chris Godwin suffered a dislocated ankle in Week 7 of last season and did not get back on the field until Week 4 this season, so that gives you an idea of just how long it could take.

Skattebo is younger, so perhaps he will have a faster recovery, but we can't say that for sure. Regardless, we wish him a successful and speedy recovery and can't wait to see him back on the field in 2026.
