Injuries continue to decimate the Buffalo Bills’ defensive tackle room through the first eight weeks of the regular season. DaQuan Jones has missed the previous two games with a calf injury sustained in pre-game warm-ups, while T.J. Sanders remains on injured reserve with a knee injury that required surgery. DeWayne Carter is out for the season after suffering an Achilles tear in late August.

Ed Oliver exited the second quarter against the Carolina Panthers with an apparent arm injury after falling to the ground. The team feared he sustained a significant biceps injury and underwent an MRI on Monday to determine the severity. Oliver has already missed four games due to an ankle injury, and the defense cannot afford him to miss an extended period.

According to Adam Schefter, tests confirmed a biceps tear for Ed Oliver. As a result, the star defensive tackle will undergo surgery and is expected to miss four to six months, though there’s a chance he could return if the Bills make a deep playoff run. When healthy, Oliver has been exceptional, recording 12 tackles, seven TFLs, five quarterback hits, three sacks, and one forced fumble across three games.
Tests today confirmed that DT Ed Oliver has a torn biceps that will require surgery and sideline him indefinitely.

Deone Walker is expected to replace Ed Oliver in the starting lineup alongside a healthy DaQuan Jones, while Larry Ogunjobi will see an expanded role after being suspended for the first six games. The earliest T.J. Sanders can return is Week 11, though he might miss additional time. Finally, the Bills could promote Jordan Phillips, Zion Logue, or Phidarian Mathis to the 53-man roster, with Phillips and Oliver having been elevated the maximum three times each and Mathis once.
