Jordan Love Deserves MVP Conversation: Green Bay Packers QB Stacks Up Against Favorites Like…

As the Green Bay Packers continue to win, quarterback Jordan Love continues to play better and better. After a historically good outing against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Love has confidently piled up many strong performances over the course of the 2025-26 season. Packers fans are wondering where the MVP hype for Love is after realizing that he more than fits the bill with his counting stats, stacking up with the league’s top candidates, including Patrick Mahomes.

Jordan Love Earning MVP Consideration After Primetime Win Over Pittsburgh

Jordan Love has had a strong season for the Green Bay Packers as the team sits atop the NFC with just 1 loss so far. Sunday night against a 5-2 Pittsburgh Steelers that many feel will be a playoff team, Love went for his best outing of the season. With 360 yards passing, 3 touchdowns, and 0 turnovers, Love excelled in the bright lights of primetime.

Perhaps the most impressive thing Love did was complete 20 straight passes in the second half. Combined with his gaudy overall numbers, Love has written a new NFL record.

threw for 350+ yards

threw 3+ TD passes

In a game that had the eyes of the NFL world on it due to Aaron Rodgers making his first ever start against his former team, Love was the QB that stole the show with a dominant display. Tight end Tucker Kraft exploded for 143 yards, while receiver Christian Watson marked his returned to action with 85 yards.

How Jordan Love Stacks Up With Other Top MVP Candidates

Both players have played 7 games this season, and while the player on the left is the current odds-on favorite, the player on the right has very comparable numbers that actually exceed the favorite in multiple categories.

The reality of the MVP award is, while it is officially an award for the best player in the given season, the weight of precedent absolutely matters when it comes to who the league hands out the award to. Few would argue that Jordan Love is a better player than Patrick Mahomes, who is currently helming the Kansas City dynasty and has three Super Bowl rings. Even if it shouldn’t matter who has won more in the past, it would take a truly special effort from a player like Love to eclipse a player like Mahomes for an MVP award.

Mahomes and Love have both experienced injury issues at the skill positions, which highlight how well they have played despite having to rely on backup receivers at times. Overall, Mahomes has guided Kansas City to 8th in scoring offense. Meanwhile, Love and Green Bay sit in 5th. If Love stacks up this well against the odds-on favorite, surely he deserves to be in the conversation as well.

There are a few other quarterbacks near the top of the MVP odds list. Right behind Mahomes is last year’s MVP, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield has been receiving plenty of attention for the award as well. A few other dark horse QBs are also in the mix, namely New England’s Drake Maye and Indianapolis’ Daniel Jones. There’s no reason Love should not be included in such company.

Jordan Love

Several things stand out as MVP-type qualities about Love this year. Firstly, Love is one of the best in the NFL against the blitz this season, ranking near the top of estimated points added (EPA) per play, yards per attempt, total touchdowns, and completion percentage.

The idea of wins being a reflection of how good a quarterback is has and will continue to be a divisive notion. For those that do put stock into such a correlation, it cannot be ignored that Love has led Green Bay to the second-best record in the NFL as we approach the halfway point of the season.

Working against Love is the fact that the Packers are a run-first team. While he certainly picked up the slack with lead back Josh Jacobs fighting through injuries in recent weeks, Love likely will not be leading the NFL in passing on a team that has the 4th-highest run rate.

It hasn’t been a perfect season from Love by any means, yet he is still playing like one of the best QBs in the league. Whether or not Love will win the award, he definitely deserves credit and consideration for how well he has performed through 7 games.
