Why Jaden Ivey isn’t playing tonight for Pistons vs. Cavs with injury news

The Detroit Pistons are mostly healthy to start the season.

Mostly.

They're without Jaden Ivey in the early going, though, which is a tough developmental situation for the young guard.

When Detroit takes on Cleveland in a national broadcast on Monday night, Ivey will only be on the sideline.

Why isn't Jaden Ivey playing?

Ivey is out due to a right knee injury.

He underwent an arthroscopic procedure on Oct. 16 to relieve right knee discomfort and was slated to be re-evaluated in four weeks.

It was quite the bummer for Ivey, who had just recovered from a left fibula fracture he sustained 30 games into last season.

Ivey was the No. 5 overall pick out of Purdue in the 2022 NBA Draft.

He was putting up his best numbers yet in 2024-25 before his injury. His averages were 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 0.9 steals per game. Ivey was also shooting a career-high 40.9% on 3-pointers and 49.0% on 2-pointers.

The Pistons have plenty of guard and wing depth even without Ivey, but they'll be hoping for his own sake that he gets back soon so he can keep growing his game.
