While Gates has not been charged or officially named in any indictment, sources say he may have hosted and participated in one of the games used to defraud wealthy players of millions.

According to investigative journalist Pablo Torre, the poker games—organized by alleged mob associate Curtis Meeks and featured as part of the federal “Operation Royal Flush” investigation—used high-tech methods to rig outcomes and lured high-net-worth participants with promises of celebrity hosts. Gates’ name surfaced in reporting as one such host in Miami, though he’s not named in any court documents.
Gates’ business manager, Denise White, swiftly issued a denial: “Antonio Gates has not been involved nor has he been accused of any wrongdoing. Assertions to the contrary are false and without merit. There will be no further comments on this matter.”
Why the Implication Is Serious
The broader scheme, detailed in unsealed federal indictments, involves over 30 individuals and claims that mafia-linked organizers used celebrities and former athletes as “face cards” to entice victims. Some of the cheating techniques alleged include rigged shuffling machines, x-ray tables and special contact lenses to read cards face-down.
For Gates, the timing could not be more precarious: he earned his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction just recently and now finds his legacy at risk with mere allegations swirling. Though there are no charges or investigations against him at this point, the association alone has triggered intense scrutiny from media, fans and sponsors.
