Tomas Soucek was criticised for his performance in the centre of the park against Leeds United.

West Ham star Tomas Soucek has confirmed that he is having private conversations with captain Jarrod Bowen over the club’s predicament following a seventh Premier League defeat of the season against Leeds United on Friday evening.

The Hammers are in crisis as they languish in 19th, already four points from safety at this early stage of the season. Nuno Espirito Santo has taken over from Graham Potter but the performances are still cause for concern.

West Ham need senior players to step up and Soucek, who made his 200th Premier League appearance last week, admitted that he is having private talks about the club’s predicament with Bowen.

He told Sky Sports: “It’s really tough, it’s a really serious time for us. We need to start very quick. Someone said it’s only nine games but already that’s quite a lot. We don’t want a big gap between us and other teams so we really need to start doing some options against it.

“We had some speaking among the players in the changing room and I think it’s good that everyone can say something and everyone can have a different opinion. We have to be one team so it’s good this challenges what we have. I speak with Jarrod as well privately about what to do and what’s best for the club.”

Soucek was slammed for his performance against Leeds United by Claret and Hugh with West Ham lacking bite in midfield. The experienced midfielder was hooked after 65 minutes at Elland Road.

Awarding him a 3/10 score for his performance, the website wrote: “Further forward than on Monday which unfortunately left Irving on his own in midfield on occasion. Missed a header from 6 yards just before half time. It felt like a big miss from a chance Soucek would usually take.”

Jarrod Bowen calls on West Ham players to ‘pull our finger out’

Bowen said: "This is the Premier League and we need to really pull our finger out. As we're in a real situation. We have to face the reality of that, the sooner it starts hitting everyone, it needs to change.

"You can't come out here and say anything different. You can't say anything positive or anything in that way. You have to face the reality of where we are: second bottom and we're in trouble now. We have to accept that.

"It's just not brave enough, not doing the jobs good enough until the end. We get a goal back, it's disallowed. It always felt like one goal and you always get a bit of confidence when you score. We did that, it was too late. Not good enough."
