Manchester City are looking to finalise Rodri’s new deal before the end of the year, TBR Football understands.
City have been in communication with Rodri and his representatives for more than 12 months, but after suffering his ACL injury in September, the player wanted to focus on getting fit.
During this period, City have also been busy tying down a number of their key squad members, with Erling Haaland, Ruben Dias, Nico O’Reilly, Savinho and Rico Lewis all penning new deals under the gaze of new sporting director Hugo Viana.

Sources have now confirmed to TBR Football that talks with Rodri’s camp have begun, and there is willingness and confidence on both sides that he will soon agree to extend the Ballon d’Or winner’s contract, which currently runs until 2027.

Exclusive: Rodri and Phil Foden deals worked on at Man City
We’re also told that City want to get deals for both Rodri and Phil Foden completed before January. TBR Football revealed last month that talks with Foden had been pencilled in, and those discussions took place during the last international window and went well.
Our chief correspondent Graeme Bailey confirms: “City are now working on Rodri’s new deal – he is back from injury and things are progressing, I am told.
“Rodri is a huge piece in the City jigsaw, as they want the spine of the team tied down. Donnarumma came in on a long-term deal, Dias and Haaland re-signed, and now they are confident Rodri will follow.
“Viana has his plans and things are going well. If City can tie down Rodri and Phil Foden in the coming weeks, they can then concentrate on improvements – but overall, they are very happy with how their squad looks.”
Man City also insist that any interest from Real Madrid is not being considered in contract talks.
