Frank Lampard and Vitor Pereira now moving in different directions, years after Everton…

Coventry City boss Frank Lampard has bounced back in style after being axed by Everton in January 2023.

January managerial changes have been a common occurrence at Everton in recent times.

Rafael Benitez, Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche were all axed by Everton during January transfer windows.

Benitez has just been appointed as the new Panathinaikos manager, while Dyche has joined Nottingham Forest.

Lampard is on fire at Coventry City and has the Sky Blues sitting top of the Championship table.

Coventry cannot stop scoring under Lampard and have already claimed 28 points from 12 games.

Lampard has completely salvaged his managerial reputation at Coventry, and he deserves enormous credit for his reaction after leaving Everton.

It’s interesting to remember that graffiti appeared at Goodison Park before Lampard’s arrival in 2022.

‘Pereira out, Lampard in’ was the message, as fans urged Everton to avoid appointing Vitor Pereira in favour of Lampard.

Pereira was ‘very close’ to taking the Everton job, but Lampard was given the reins instead.

Pereira finally arrived in the Premier League last year as he became Wolves boss.

The Portuguese coach kept Wolves in the Premier League, but is now enduring a nightmare.

Wolves lost 3-2 to Burnley on Sunday, and they are still waiting for their first Premier League win of the season.

Bottom of the table with just two points from nine games, Wolves are in real danger of being relegated.

It’s early days, but Lampard’s Coventry could yet replace Pereira’s Wolves in the Premier League; quite the twist of fate after their battle for the Everton job.

Vitor Pereira’s mixed record since Everton snub

Lampard kept Everton in the Premier League, but results faded away before he was axed in favour of Sean Dyche.

The former England international is now thriving at Coventry, and a step back into the EFL appears to have done wonders for him.

Pereira’s record has been a little mixed, winning 40% of his games at Corinthians before leading just 18 games at Flamengo.

Pereira rebounded with 18 wins in 30 games at Al Shabab, but has now seen his Wolves stint go sour.

Whether Everton made the right call on the Lampard vs Pereira debate is still up for discussion, but their seasons are now going in completely different directions, almost four years since the graffiti debacle.
