Swans v Man City : Changes will happen & Erling Haaland looks doubtful
Tuesday, 28th Oct 2025 08:00 by Liam Walters
Wednesday evenings home game for the Swans will see Premier League giants Manchester City at the swansea.com, but also two sides who will have changes. Erling Haaland Is a major doubt with both sides most certainly going for theor back up goalkeepers.
Despite Swans followers indicating that this game is a free hit - or possibly not as important as Saturdays game against Charlton Athletic it is a game which really nobody will give the Swans a chance in. The last cup meetings between the sides in 2019 and 2021 were the same, in fact every meeting since the Swans beat Manchester City fifteen fixtures ago has the same monologue.
If you want to read about the two FA Cup games and indeed how the Swans beat Manchester City in a Premier League game in 2012 then click in the link below.
⚽️ Swans v Man City in the FA Cup
The Swans and Man City have met on fifteen occasions since 2012
Alan Sheehan will make changes that’s for sure, but it’s how many that most Swans fans will be asking ? The obvious is that Andrew Fisher who has played in goal for the first three rounds will start again. But how much does Sheehan want to win the tie ? Ishé Samuels-Smith started against Nottingham Forest as did Kaelan Casey, both players are on loan from Chelsea and West Ham respectively and didn’t disappoint. However, we did see Josh Tymon later come on in that game as the Swans pushed forwards 2-1 down. Only four players didn’t make it on to the field that night, Ben Cabango, Bobby Wales, Zeidane Inoussa and sub keeper, Paul Farman. This has been a journey for him since signing for the Swans, the soon to be thirty six year old was released by Barrow in May which he found a shock at the time. The Swans were looking for a third choice keeper in the summer and he was somewhat of a surprise signing. Joining as a free agent in early August he probably had no thoughts about potentially sitting on the Swans bench against Manchester City this season. Well, that’s looking likely to happen this week, the tallest player at the club at nearly 6’6” dwarfs even Cameron Burgess and we suspect will be savouring this unexpected adventure.
There’s no reason at all to classify any player who starts or who gets on to the pitch this Wednesday as second choice, despite the desire by some to do so. Yes, some haven’t had a major impact but they are few, Manuel Benson and Samuels-Smith would be obvious choices and the recent inclusion of Melker Widell we believe puts him in the frame to start. The first team squad has been utilised a fair bit already this season be that on the bench or on the pitch.
Pep Guardiola the current manager of Manchester City (nine years and counting) will be expected to select a side which can beat Swansea comfortably and get back on the road as early as possible, He has a squad to select from which even if you include a number of age grade players could beat the Swans on their home turf most times. However, this is Swansea in front of a sell out crowd on what is expected to be damp conditions after rain during the day. In fact if the forecast is correct it could well be a great night for football under the lights. Nottingham Forest another Premier League outfit found that out to their cost with two injury time Swansea goals to knock them out in the last round.
Rayan Cherki and Omar Marmoush are rumoured to be included along with goalkeeper James Trafford, and the whisper is Erling Haaland could miss the game completely. He picked up an injury at Aston Villa on the weekend in a 1-0 loss. Since the Swans have won this competition in 2013 Manchester City have won it six times. The last time in 2021. Despite a slight chance of defeat Pep has his sights firmly set on Bournemouth on Saturday evening. The Citizens have won five of their league games this season with one draw and three losses. Much the same as Alan Sheehan one eye will be on the league.
The visitors have scored seventeen goals from their nine games with seven conceded and sit fifth in the Premier League table. The Swans after twelve Championship games have scored twelve and conceded the same amount. They have won four, drawn four and lost four in a mid table form. Inconsistency is the word being used and indeed ‘cautious’ after protecting their 2-1 lead in the home victory on Saturday against Norwich. Probably not the best tactic against top class opposition although Sheehan did recieve plaudits from ex Swans player Lee Trundle for his tactics.
The game kicks off at 7:45pm on Wednesday at the swansea.com and can be seen LIVE on Sky Sports + More on the game later and we have an all day match day tomorrow
