Luton Town Support Confident Of Beating Brighton U21 In Vertu Trophy

This evening (Tuesday), the Hatters welcome a Brighton U21 side to Kenilworth Road for their last Vertu Trophy Group H fixture.

A win, or even, possibly, a draw could see Luton Town qualify for the knockout stages of a competition that concludes with a Wembley Final.

I’ve always thought it to be something of a novel idea to include, in the competition, U21 sides from the Premier League.

Watching the results come in from earlier fixtures in the Vertu Group stages, the Premier League U21 sides don’t do as well as you might expect with several being beaten heavily and very rarely do they make the latter stages off the competition.

Perhaps youthfulness is no substitute for experience and that extra physicality they come up against, normally, doesn’t bode well.

Perhaps that’s why, in our pre-match poll, a Luton Town win is predicted by a huge 71% of those that voted, with only 17% going for the Brighton & Hove Albion U21 to spring a surprise.

As for the remaining 12%, they are of the opinion that the game will end all-square, after 90 minutes, thereby forcing a penalty shoot-out to see who earns what could be that vital extra point.

Personally, I reckon the Hatters will win this tie inside the distance, by the odd goal in three.
