‘He knows': Ben Foster left ‘shocked’ by what £36m Liverpool star did during defeat to Brentford

Many of Liverpool’s stars have been thrust into the spotlight following yet another defeat.

So far this season, it looks as if the Reds’ wheels have completely fallen off, with performances nowhere near the levels they were this time last year.

Liverpool find themselves seven points off league leaders Arsenal, with their four losses on the bounce the same amount as they lost in the entirety of last season.

Arne Slot certainly has a lot to ponder on, although in all fairness, some of the individual performances cannot be pinned onto him.

There was one player in particular who caught the eye of some, and not for the right reasons, with former goalkeeper Ben Foster left ‘shocked’ by what he did in the lead-up to their second goal.

Ibrahima Konate just gave up for Kevin Shade’s goal

After conceding so early on after a long throw-in, the tempo of the game was set and Liverpool were under a lot of pressure.

They could not quite handle it either as the Bees took a two-goal lead after Kevin Shade latched on to a through ball that was played in between Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

It was the latter who had the job of matching the run of the attacker, but the Frenchman could not keep up, with Foster believing that Konate could have done a lot more.

“I want to talk about one of the goals in particular, Ibrahima Konate’s defending for the Shade goal,” he said on The Fozcast.

“The unwillingness to step into somebody is getting into some of these players’ heads.

“I was so shocked by Konate’s body language as he knows he’s been done by the run, which is fine, but he probably needed to be a little better at reading it.

“But then it was his unwillingness to get back in and really make a last-gasp tackle, he didn’t want to know. He was so happy to let Shade get the ball onto his right foot and shoot. He just gave up.

“Even Shade was probably expecting a bit of contact to put him off, but Konate didn’t make it uncomfortable for him one bit.”

Liverpool are getting beaten in all areas of the pitch

The frustrating thing for Reds fans right now is that a lot of their problems are very obvious, but nothing seems to be changing.

The first goal highlighted their issues with balls into the box, while the second showed how easily they can be cut open with one pass, with there being weaknesses all over the pitch.

Liverpool also failed to win the first or second balls on almost every occasion, which is simply not good enough for a team attempting to retain their title.

Some drastic changes are needed, and quickly too, with Slot needing to, somehow, find a way to make the defence far more reliable.
