Sandro Tonali, Lewis Hall & Tino Livramento - Newcastle United injury list & expected return dates.
Newcastle United are in Carabao Cup action on Wednesday night as they host Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park.
The Magpies are the holders of the competition and their defence started with a 4-1 win over League One side Bradford City last month.
In more recent form, Eddie Howe’s side head into the Spurs match on the back of consecutive wins over Benfica in the Champions League and Fulham in the Premier League.
We take a look at Newcastle United’s injury list in full and when each player is expected to return, as things stand:
Sven Botman
Botman was forced to withdraw during the 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday following a cut to the head.
What’s been said?
Howe said: “Yes, so, as I said, after the game, no concussion. It was a cut, quite a nasty-looking cut for Sven. I think he had it stapled together so, he didn't train yesterday, so we'll see how he is today.”
Expected return date
Tottenham Hotspur (H) 29/10.
Lewis Hall
Hall felt his hamstring during the 4-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League and has missed the last three games.
What’s been said?
Speaking recently, Howe said: “Yes, the second scan was good news. There were different scales of time he could be out, it's the shorter time. So we hope he'll be back during this period of games we have before the next international break.
“We don't know exactly when that will be, but we expect him to, if he doesn't suffer any ill effects from anything that he's doing, to be back at some stage. And as I said from the first scan, that might not have been possible.
“So good news, he's such an important player for us and hopefully we can keep him fit.”
Expected return date
West Ham United (A) 02/11.
Yoane Wissa
Wissa joined from Brentford for £55million on September 1 but just over a week later suffered a knee injury on international duty with the Democratic Republic of Congo. The 29-year-old is yet to make his debut for Newcastle.
What’s been said?
Speaking last Friday, Howe said: “I think if you look at Yoane's situation, he will need almost a pre-season.
“Pre-season schedules that we give to players will be six weeks. We do that for a reason, so we can build them up and they can play in various games and then they're ready to perform.
“I'm not saying he won't play for six weeks. But I think to get to his very best level, it will probably take that time.
“But firstly, before we get to that stage, we need to get him fully 100% fit and then we can really push him. He's on that road. He's been to see a specialist [Thursday]. That was a routine appointment.
“He's on track. He's doing well. So now I think we can push him a little bit harder.”
Expected return date
Brentford (A), 09/11.
Tino Livramento
Newcastle feared the worst when Livramento was stretchered off with a knee injury during the recent defeat to Arsenal.
Livramento suffered an ACL injury when at Southampton but further assessment has revealed the full-back has avoided a repeat, though will still miss up to eight weeks of action.
What’s been said?
Howe said on Tuesday: “I'd say he's still on track. I think the two-week international break dictates that he won't be able to bring that forward by two weeks.I think we're looking at the Manchester City game for him as a pencilled-in date for hopefully that he can be available for.
“But he's doing well. He feels really good. There's no adverse reaction to his injury.”
Expected return date
Manchester City (H) 22/11
