A shocking stat has emerged that could lead to Enzo Maresca following in Frank Lampard’s footsteps out of the exit door at Stamford Bridge if he’s not careful.
Maresca has seemingly adapted well since taking charge of the Blues. In his first full season, the club regained Champions League football by finishing fourth in the Premier League.
While the club’s 2025-26 campaign has started inconsistently, there have been plenty of positive signs that he’s the right man to get the most out of this young group.

However, Chelsea’s latest defeat against Sunderland this past weekend has led to a comparison to Frank Lampard that might not bode well for Maresca’s long-term future.
Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea future could be up in the air as worrying Frank Lampard comparison emerges
Maresca might be a popular figure among the Chelsea faithful, but after the Sunderland defeat, he has gained fewer points than Lampard did in his first 47 Premier League games.
Lampard secured 84 points from his first 47 fixtures, while Maresca is one behind on 83, which could be a worrying sign for his future.
Lampard also had a strong first season as Chelsea manager, guiding the club to a fourth-placed Premier League finish and to the FA Cup final, which they ultimately lost to Arsenal.
The Chelsea legend also had to deal with a transfer ban, which saw him usher in a youth movement with the likes of Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham being brought into the first team.
Maresca hasn’t had to deal with those pressures and has been heavily backed financially during his time at Stamford Bridge.
It could be concerning that he hasn’t been able to make the most of that during Lampard’s time in charge in moving Chelsea forward.
Lampard only lasted until January during his second season as Chelsea boss, and if Maresca isn’t able to truly improve between now and then, he could suffer the same fate.
Enzo Maresca has managed to bring Chelsea silverware
While statistically, there is very little between Maresca and Lampard in terms of their Premier League runs as Chelsea managers, the big difference is the fact that the Blues have won trophies under the current boss.
Manager Lampard Maresca
Wins 25 24
Draws 9 11
Losses 13 12
Goals Scored 91 81
Goals Conceded 64 54
Chelsea have been known as a team that consistently wins trophies throughout the past three decades, but under Lampard, they were unable to win anything.
That is the true difference maker between them, with Maresca also pushing a much younger team across the board, lacking the experience that Lampard had access to in players such as Thiago Silva.
Maresca has proven he can get the best out of this current crop of Chelsea players. It is now just about putting it together consistently, and if he is able to achieve that, then he should outlast Lampard’s tenure.
