UTSW Inks Deal With Mavericks and Wichita Falls Hospital Closes

UT Southwestern Medical Center physicians will be the official team doctors for the Dallas Mavericks. The hospital has been the official health care partner for the NBA franchise since 2019. UT Southwestern will aid the Maverick’s health and wellness programs and support its community engagement initiatives, including game-day theme nights and game ball deliveries from a patient in UTSW’s cancer center. The partnership will also include an ad campaign across the American Airlines Center and on the front shoulder of the players’ warm-up shirts.

Kell West Regional Hospital is no more. The Wichita Falls hospital ceased operations last week after 25 years, according to a Facebook post on the hospital’s page. The center will refer patients to the United Regional Health Care System as it winds down operations in the following weeks. A review of hospital patient volumes, reimbursement rates, and infrastructure needs led to the hospital’s closing. “Kell West’s transition is the result of thoughtful consideration and examination of whether we could continue to sustain our commitment to our staff, physicians, and community,” Kell West CEO Dr. Jerry Myers said via Facebook. United Regional will acquire the property for future use.

Healthcare intelligence firm Machinify acquired auditing platform Performant Healthcare for $670 million. Machinify’s AI operating system is used to find and fix payment errors in insurance, so firms can pay out claims and pay pharmacies accurate amounts. Performant, another auditing software platform, has a strong program with government ties. Machinify hopes those connections can lead to client growth for the firm. As a result of the acquisition, Performant’s shares will be delisted from Nasdaq and will operate as a privately held entity.

Pharmaceutical manufacturer BMK Pharma is set to open its North Texas headquarters in 2026. The Allen HQ will serve as the firm’s U.S. base as a sterile drug manufacturing facility, regulated by the Food and Drug Administration as a 503B facility, where it compounds multiple ingredients into a single medication. The company expects to create over a hundred jobs spanning engineering, chemistry, and pharmaceutical research.

Parkland Health received a nursing excellence award from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, its second nursing excellence award. It received a Magnet designation with distinction. The hospital is alongside four other medical institutions with dual designation, and one of two receiving Magnet with distinction. “Quality outcomes are important, and patient satisfaction is important,” said Parkland Chief Nursing Officer Donna Richardson. “It’s really about impacting our community through excellent nursing care.”
