Botman was forced off in the second half of Saturday's win over Fulham after a head clash, and while there was no concussion, the centre-half did suffer a "nasty" cut.
Botman missed training on Monday and Howe was set to assess the defender on Tuesday before making a selection decision ahead of the visit of the Spurs for the fourth round tie.
Wednesday's game will come too soon for Lewis Hall, but the left-back is expected to be in contention to return to the squad for Sunday's Premier League trip to West Ham United.
Hall has been missing since the Champions League win over Union Saint-Gilloise with a hamstring problem.

Meanwhile, Tino Livramento and Yoanne Wissa are both making good progress in their recovery from knee injuries.
Eddie Howe hopes Livramento will be fit to return to the squad for the home game against Manchester City after the November international break.
Howe is understandably reluctant to put a confirmed date or game on Wissa's return. The striker is now close to being available but Howe wants to put the summer signing through a "mini pre-season".
Wissa hasn't played since joining [Newcastle](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/newcastleunited/?ref=ed_direct) in the summer.
Updating on the injury situation, Howe said on Tuesday: "There was no concussion with Sven. It was a cut, quite a nasty looking cut.
"He had it stapled together. He didn't train yesterday so we'll see how he is today.
"Lewis is the closest \[of the longer-term absentees\]. This game will come too quickly for him, we'll see how he is for West Ham.
"Tino is still on track. The two week international break dictates we won't be able to bring that forward.
"The Man City game is the one we've pencilled in that hopefully he can be available for. He's doing well, he feels really good, there's no adverse reaction to his injury so positive signs for Tino, Lewis and Yoanne. They're all track for their returns."
On Wissa specifically, Howe said: "It's very difficult for me to give a game. He's in a different boat to the other two because he's coming from further back fitness wise, he's been out longer.
"Lewis's return will be quite quick. Once he's fit and available he'll be involved. Same with Tino. Yoanne is still on track but we need to make sure he's gone through a mini pre-season as well."
Howe will shuffle his pack against Spurs but is desperate to win the game and move into the last eight of the competition Newcastle won last season.
The head coach said: "It's an important decision that I've got coming up for this game. We want to progress of course, the competition means a lot, current holders and we don't want to give that up easily, but I have to trust the squad and we have some very good players who need football and need an opportunity to show their talents.
"There'll be an element of that but I have to try and get the balance right.
"I love the different focuses these competitions brings. I really love this competition.
"I love preparing for football matches and the players have got into a groove and rhythm of knowing this season is about playing and resting and preparing for the next game.
"The different focuses are a good thing and we want to stay in as many competitions as we can."
