After Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards left Sunday’s win over Indiana early in the first quarter, the team released this update on Monday afternoon:
_An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) taken at Mayo Clinic by Dr. Aaron Krych and Dr. Jeff Payne at Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine on Edwards revealed a right hamstring strain. Edwards will be re-evaluated in one week_.
Edwards, one of the best offensive players in the NBA, had 41 points in the season opening win in Portland on Wednesday and 31 against the Lakers Friday before getting hurt early against Indiana.
ESPN reports that Edwards is expected to miss at least two weeks. So, it’s possible that we don’t see him back in action until mid-November.
The Wolves have eight games in the next weeks, including Monday night vs. Denver.
Wednesday’s nationally-televised home game vs. the Lakers now will have Edwards, along with Lakers stars Luka Doncic and LeBron James sidelined due to injuries.
Edwards missed only three games over each of the last three seasons. He’d played before this injury in 426 of a possible 445 games in his career, including the playoffs.
The Timberwolves announced backup point guard Rob Dillingham was available to play against Denver after being held out against Indiana because of a broken nose.
The Wolves are 2-1 so far this season.
