Eagles trade idea from ESPN takes Philly from 2/3 to fully solved

The Philadelphia Eagles are two-thirds of the way to a perfect cornerback room, ESPN's Ben Solak wrote in a new article on Tuesday.

Before the Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline, Solak thinks they need to get the rest of the way there.

"With second-year studs in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, the Eagles are two-thirds of the way to an elite cornerback room," Solak wrote.

The problem is that Mitchell on the outside and DeJean in the slot can't account for the other boundary position.

"The other outside spot has been hammered," Solak writes. "Out of 76 qualifying corners, veteran Adoree' Jackson leads the league with a 25.7% target rate per coverage snap. His coverage success rate is 66th; his yards per coverage snap allowed is 75th. Teammate Kelee Ringo is only a little better, ranking 53rd in coverage success rate and 48th in yards per coverage snap."

Solak's solution is a trade.

He writes that the Eagles should get Ja'Quan McMillan from the Broncos with a seventh-round pick in exchange for two sixth-round picks.

"I like McMillian best for the Eagles," Solak writes. "His replacement is waiting in the wings in Denver, as the Broncos drafted Jahdae Barron in the first round of the 2025 draft. The injury to Pat Surtain II should not affect the Broncos' plans in the slot much, as they have Kris Abrams-Draine waiting in the wings at the outside corner spot. Signed as an exclusive rights free agent last year, McMillian is on an extremely cheap one-year contract, and the Eagles would retain his restricted free agent rights for next season. If he ends up exclusively backing up DeJean in the slot at his current price tag, that's totally fine."

The Eagles won the Super Bowl last season in large part because their defense was special.

That unit lost a number of talented pieces in the offseason (although the retired Brandon Graham is back now).

It makes sense that this trade deadline would be used to bulk up that side of the ball again, just a bit. McMillan would be a good fit.
