Pep Guardiola says James Trafford is destined to be England’s No.1 at some stage.
The young City keeper could feature against Swansea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening having kept goal in our third round win over Huddersfield Town.
Though his appearances have been restricted since the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Guardiola says he has been delighted with Trafford’s progress since re-joining the Blues last summer
“Only I can say we are delighted he is here,” Pep said of Trafford.
“He will have to be ready in case we need him in the Premier League or Champions League.
“We have an incredible keeper [who will be] England number one sooner or later.”
Trafford, who turned 23 earlier this month, has made four appearances so far this campaign.
Asked at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon if Trafford was learning from team-mate Donnarumma, the boss replied: “They learn from each other. Keepers are always connected.
“Like I learn from the players and the players can learn from the staff.”
And Guardiola reinforced his commitment to the Carabao Cup by saying he will pay the South Wales side the respect they deserve and reflect that in his team selection.
“It’s not our first time,” he said.
“Teams in lower divisions we take seriously otherwise we would not have success in the past.
“I think I have the responsibility through my body language , [which is] what you have to do.
“See me like I don’t care? That never happens.”
