Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 10/28: Keep Your Head Down

CLEVELAND, OHIO (TheOBR.com) - Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!

THE DAILY BLOVIATION

I've appeared on two of our evening video shows the last two days (Post-Game, Gang of Three), so my brain is sputtering this morning. I think I've used up all my coherent thoughts about Cleveland Browns football, and am now running on fumes.

So, I think I'm just going to spray the world with bullet points.

So, I thought that the phenomenon of opposing team fans being loud in our stadium was just a Cleveland thing created by 25 years of bad football and people selling their tickets because they don't want to witness it. But here it is happening in Pittsburgh to a team that's in first place in the AFC North and has been to the playoffs for, what, 17 straight years or something. Now THAT'S embarrassing. Enjoy your little taste of what it's like, yinzers.

People writing or sportsyapping about trading Myles Garrett in the media need to either learn basic math or read "The Complete Idiot's Guide to the NFL Salary Cap". Or Both. As things currently stand, it's just not within the realm of possibility.

So, which wide receiver that the Browns have drafted and developed is your favorite?

The Cleveland Browns collecttight ends like a bored housewife collects kitchen gadgets. This has spurred a lot of questions about whether the team is intent on trading David Njoku, as he is in the last year of his deal and the team really, really likes draft picks. I believe the Browns will be opportunistic, meaning they're not dying to trade Njoku but will seriously listen to any pitch made their way. Right now, he's only one of two receivers (both tight ends) seemingly interested in catching footballs.

Right now, a generator of conflict on the forums is whether you think Dillon Gabriel is the source of the team's offensive struggles or whether the offensive unit has enough weak components to represent a cumulative feedback loop of ineptitude. This morning, yet another thread - which should have been a discussion of my compelling, visceral video presence - has shifted gears to people arguing about Gabriel. I'm starting to delete some posts when threads get hijacked by the topic.

We got a question during last night's show, which asked if we felt that the team's focus was on being good when they open the dome in 2029 rather than being competitive now. We think they'll try to become more competitive each year and make some noise in 2026/2027. I mean, I think they would like to be competitive now, they don't have the personnel.

But the dark, cynical side of me thinks in the back of my mind: "When do they start taking deposits for six-figure PSLs? That's the target".

The dark, cynical side of my brain is evil and needs to shut up. I use bourbon to quiet it.

Myles Garrett gets five sacks to set a Browns record, and the game ends with him slamming his helmet on the bench because he's so sick of losing. It's a truly memorable moment that says a lot about the state of the franchise.

I'm taking a little heat because I "make excuses" for Gabriel by pointing out that his offensive line struggles to move defenders and his wide receivers are probably the worst in the NFL. I do think Gabriel has issues, especially now after taking a pounding in three of four games. But I don't think replacing him fixes the offense much more than any of the previous 41 quarterbacks did. That said, I look forward to seeing what Sanders can do when he gets his chance -- it's just that the learning experience of dozens of previous quarterback changes has left me a bit skeptical.

I've watched site after site go over to the dark (clickbait/aggregation) side to survive as things get harder and harder in the media business. There's one site that I'm not going to link to or name, which started five years ago doing legitimate NFL-wide work and statistical analysis. I talked a bunch with the site's founder and admired what he was doing and the people he had hired. Flash forward: He's sold the company to someone focused on the bottom line, and yesterday their Browns articles were about Shedeur Sanders liking an Instagram post and what Tony Rizzo said to try to get attention on his radio show. As someone who fights every day to make sure the books balance, I understand entirely why sites do this to survive, but it's really sad.

We're cutting up segments of our longer evening shows into 50-60 second clips and putting them on networks like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts. This is long overdue as we try to find more Browns fans interested in a site like ours. If you want to check them out, you can follow us on TikTok or Instagram. We have them as "shorts" on our YouTube site as well.

Dolphins are supposed to be smart, but I don't see them doing any of this stuff. You know what they're doing? Eating fish and bouncing balls off their noses, that's what. I don't want and can't do those things, but that doesn't mean I'm jealous of the Dolphin lifestyle. Much.
