Duncan Commentary: Saints must revive their offense

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Saints are looking for answers after their latest loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Superdome, with Jeff Duncan discussing the necessary changes for the team.

The Saints lost again Sunday, scoring just three points in a loss to the Buccaneers. The offense struggled to the point that quarterback Spencer Rattler was benched in the third quarter.

Rookie Tyler Shough did not fare much better as the Saints recorded their seventh loss in eight games.

Offensive struggles mount

-------------------------

The Saints’ offensive unit has been trending downward in recent weeks. Sunday’s point total was a season low, as was their average of 3.9 yards per play.

The team has now scored one or fewer touchdowns in three of their last four games and has gone three straight games without a run of more than nine yards. The Saints have committed turnovers, penalties, and dropped passes at an increasing rate.

The struggles come despite hiring Coach Kellen Moore from Philadelphia, who was touted as an offensive guru and compared to former Saints coach Sean Payton. Moore’s offenses have lacked explosiveness and creativity so far this season.

Halfway through the season, the Saints are still searching for an offensive identity. It might be up to Tyler Shough to help them find one.
