After Manchester United's defeat to Grimsby Town in August it was clear Andre Onana needed to be moved on.

Onana was given the benefit of the doubt under Erik ten Hag after a rocky start to his United career. The Cameroonian was brought in to play out from the back, and the manager who spent £47.2million to sign him was always likely to afford him time to adapt, but it soon became clear his shot-stopping wasn't at the level required and the ball-playing ability he was meant to bring also deserted him.

An injury picked up during pre-season allowed Altay Bayindir the chance to stake his claim for a place in the side. The Turkey international looked even less reliable than Onana, yet Amorim persisted with Bayindir, meaning it was obvious he didn't see a future for him at Old Trafford.

When Onana got his chance to prove he could return to his best he blew it. His first half display at Blundell Park was a nightmare and Senne Lammens' arrival on deadline day meant Onana was destined for the exit door.

His move to Trabzonspor was the right outcome for all parties. Since Onana joined the Turkish club, Lammens has shown himself to be up to the task of being No.1 at Old Trafford. While Onana is unlikely to play for United again, he is doing exactly what is needed of him over in Turkey.

Onana has been an ever-present in the Trabzonspor team since his move, and has only suffered defeat once - on his debut against Fenerbahce. Trabzonspor have won their last four matches in the Super Lig and United's loanee has kept two clean sheets in his last three appearances.

Only three teams have a better defensive record in the Super Lig than Trabzonspor this season, with Onana's side currently second in the table behind leaders Galatasaray.

United will likely look to cash in on Onana this summer and so it's within their best interests for Onana to showcase his ability while out on loan. United's overhaul under Ruben Amorim is ongoing and they need to make as much money as possible from sales to accelerate the rebuild.

There is still a long way to go this season but if Onana can continue to impress over in Turkey then it can only be good news for United.
