The New York Jets won their first game of the year, right in the nick of time.
Not only did it stop the Jets from entering their Week 9 bye without a win, but it also saved the NFL from potentially every game in Week 8 being at least a double-digit game.
One of the huge reasons for the Jets' 39-38 win, despite the high-scoring affair, was cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr., who was acquired from the Tennessee Titans earlier in 2025.
Just one month since the Jets acquired the former Titans cornerback, their trade with Tennessee is looking like a steal. The 24-year-old cornerback has been great, and as Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic pointed out, Jets' GM Darren Mougey "hit a home run" with this trade pickup.
Jets 'hit a home run' with Jarvis Brownlee trade
Both the Jets and Titans are 1-7 after eight weeks, but the vibes between the two sides have taken a drastic shift in the last week. The Jets got their first win and showed promise for the future.
Brownlee, the cornerback the Jets traded for earlier in the year, has looked like a star. He forced the game-winning incompletion for the Jets, and in four games with the Jets, he's been one of their best defenders.
Brownlee has two passes defended, one forced fumble and 19 tackles. On 13 targets this season with the Jets, he's allowed 10 catches for 97 yards and no touchdowns. His passer rating against is 97.3, and while not the best, it's also not as bad as it was during his stint with the Titans this season, when he was at a 125.4 rating.

In September of the 2025 season, the Jets, who will likely sell players at the deadline, bought a young cornerback. They sent a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Titans for Brownlee and a 2026 seventh-round pick.
Not only did the Jets land a good, young cornerback, but they did so by only making a late-round pick swap. Both draft picks will be near the top of the round, so the Jets essentially moved down roughly 40 spots to land a young ascending cornerback.
It's been just four games in New York, but so far, it's looking like a steal for the Jets. Mougey got a second-year cornerback who's shown promise for a late-round pick swap. It's a great trade, and if he continues to develop, it could look like even more of a steal.
