The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Washington Commanders 28-7 at Arrowhead Stadium, shaking off a shaky first half to take control in the second. The win, Kansas City’s fifth in six games, featured a strong collective effort and a defining moment when Travis Kelce caught a 10-yard touchdown in the third quarter that tied the franchise record for total touchdowns.
Fireworks celebrated the milestone as the crowd roared and Patrick Mahomes made sure the football was preserved for Kelce. Mahomes had an up-and-down game early, as the Chiefs offense produced two giveaways and a 7-7 halftime score.

A tipped pass led to an interception by linebacker Bobby Wagner in the first half, but Kansas City rallied after the break, playing with more physicality and rhythm. Mahomes’ decision-making and the team’s adjustments fueled a steady second-half advantage that turned the contest into a comfortable victory.

He added, “He’s breaking all the records now, and he’s all about the team. I want to make sure that he gets that,” and noted the team would try to secure a game ball once Kelce officially breaks the record.

Kelce finished with six receptions on eight targets for a season-high 99 yards and the record-tying score. His ability to find soft spots against zone coverage and to release after blocking helped produce a 38-yard gain earlier in the third quarter and set up the scoring opportunity. Mahomes was no behind in terms of figures; he threw for 299 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
