Liverpool are eyeing up new centre-backs after their poor start to the 2025-26 season.
Although things went well for the Reds in the Premier League within the first month or so, since then, things have quickly gone downhill, and now talk of them dropping out of the title race has emerged.
One of the ways they can try and combat this is by adding a new centre-back to their ranks as soon as possible.

Although a January move for players such as Marc Guehi and Dayot Upamecano has been rumoured due to the short amount of time left on their contracts, that doesn’t feel all that likely at the moment.
This is why Liverpool’s interest in a potential transfer for Kim Min-Jae in the summer could be the exact news that fans wanted to hear.

The South Korean has been in and around Bayern Munich’s starting XI for some time now, but with the future of Upamecano up in the air and Liverpool’s recent links with Nico Schlotterbeck, he may have to make some contingency plans for his future.
Liverpool keeping an eye on any developments with Kim Min-Jae is a good sign
A fresh report from journalist Dean Jones emerged late last week, which stated that Liverpool were ‘keeping an eye’ on any developments regarding Min-Jae.
At the moment, Inter Milan and AC Milan are the favourites to sign the centre-back, with his previous experience of Serie A football likely one of the main selling points for the Italian giants.

Although Liverpool will have to compete with several clubs for his transfer, the fact they’re looking into a potential deal shows that the Anfield outfit know where they need to improve.
To be fair, this was made obvious by the Reds’ last-ditch attempt to sign Guehi in the summer, and, if that move had worked out, talks of a new centre-back would be nowhere near the mouths of fans.
But, the fact that it didn’t could mean that Liverpool get an even better defender, even if he may cost a decent amount more than the Englishman would have.
Kim Min-Jae would be a perfect signing for Liverpool
Min-Jae may be 28 years old, but there’s still plenty of ability within him.
Last season, he was a regular starter for Vincent Kompany’s team, with the former Napoli man playing in 27 of Bayern Munich’s 34 Bundesliga games.
During that time, he also scored three goals and even kept Upamecano out of the team on occasion.
The fact that he’s also had experience outside of the Bundesliga means that he’s likely to be much more adaptable than the likes of Upamecano and Schlotterbeck would be.

His experience would also help him get used to the Premier League much quicker, and the fact that he’s almost always played in a back four throughout his career means that he’d easily fit into Arne Slot’s plans.
However, since his contract isn’t set to expire until 2028, he could cost a pretty penny for Liverpool to prise away from the reigning Bundesliga champions.
