James Tarkowski has expressed his disappointment in the manner of Sunday’s defeat to Spurs.
Everton fell to a 3-0 defeat, the second consecutive loss but the first on home soil this season.
It was a frustrating afternoon, compounded by one-sided officiating and VAR controversy.
Indeed, captain Tarkowski has echoed the sentiment felt by many fans – that we need to start putting the ball in the net.
Everton haven’t scored for two games on the spin, with clear chances not being taken advantage of.
Meanwhile, Spurs scored two goals from set pieces in the first half on Sunday. Indeed, defender Micky Van de Ven scored both of them.
The Dutchman’s first was also Everton’s first goal conceded from a set piece all season. Much like buses, another arrived shortly after the first.
Spurs keeper Vicario made a few good saves as Everton sought an avenue back into the game. However, as Tarkowski states, the Blues need to find a way to score goals.
MOYES MUST FIND A WAY TO GET EVERTON SCORING AGAIN – SUNDERLAND WILL BE A BIG TEST
He said: “We need to start scoring goals, we need to start putting the ball in the back of the net.
“That might sound like I’m picking on forward players, but I’m definitely not, that’s for the whole team including myself. We need to find ways to score. Tottenham’s centre halves scored two against us.”
Everton have made significant progress in the opening months of the season. However, weaknesses within Moyes’ current options are becoming increasingly apparent.
While our limited options upfront speak for themselves, the situation at full-back negatively impacts multiple positions.
Neither full-back provides an overlap, allowing the opposition to double up on the wide players. Meanwhile, O’Brien’s limitations playing out of position continue to be exploited.
Moving him inside and dropping Tarks to the bench might provide a short-term solution until January. Coleman, or alternatively James Garner could be an alternative at right-back.
However, the defender is right; Moyes must find a solution to the current goal drought, starting on Monday evening.
