Wolves predicted line-up vs Chelsea: six changes made including big Joao Gomes and Jackson…

Result was not fair - Wolves boss Vítor Pereira

Wolves have a welcome distraction from their poor Premier League campaign with some Carabao Cup action

Wolves take on fellow Premier League side Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night at Molineux. Vitor Pereira’s side have endured a tough start to the new season. They find themselves bottom of the Premier League table and are yet to win in the league.

The Midlands club are inside the drop zone along with Nottingham Forest and West Ham. They will hope to get their first victory against Fulham on Saturday. In the meantime, here is a look at a predicted starting XI to face Enzo Maresca’s men....

Wolves predicted XI vs Chelsea: goalkeeper and defence

Wolves could make a change between the sticks with Jose Sa coming in for Sam Johnstone. The 32-year-old, who was involved in an altercation with some fans after the Burnley loss, has been playing second fiddle behind Johnstone over recent times. The upcoming tie against Chelsea is an opportunity for him to get some minutes.

At right-back, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Jackson Tchatchoua get the nod. He likes to get up and down the flank of defence and get involved in attacks. On the other side, Hugo Bueno has been enjoying plenty of action so far this season.

Emmanuel Agbadou and Toti Gomes were both on the bench against the Clarets and Wolves may hand them both a start here to freshen things up. They have been conceding too many goals and need to tighten things up at the back. A positive outcome against Chelsea would give them the confidence to turn things around in the league.

Wolves predicted XI vs Chelsea: midfield and attack

Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes was substituted on against Burnley so should be fresh. The 24-year-old, who has made 10 caps for the Brazil national team, has been on the books of his current club since joining back in 2023. He has made 98 appearances in all competitions to date and has scored seven goals, having previously been at Flamengo in his native country as a youngster.

Jean‐Ricner Bellegarde and Marshall Munetsi are likely to feature from the off again. The latter got on the scoresheet against Burnley but his team weren’t able to get anything from the game in the end. He made the switch to England in January after catching the eye in France with Stade de Reims.

Furher up the pitch, Hwang Hee-chan may start in place of Jhon Arias for his pace. The South Korean has struggled for form over recent times and has a point to prove. He joined Wolves in 2021 on an initial loan from RB Leipzig that was later made permanent and he has since found the net on 20 occasion in 97 outings.

Wolves predicted line-up vs Chelsea in full: Sa; Tchatchoua, Agbadou, Gomes, Bueno; Gomes, Bellegarde, Munetsi; Hwang, Larsen, Gomes.
