3 Jaguars not-named Brian Thomas Jr. who could be traded at NFL deadline

The Jacksonville Jaguars didn't play in Week 8 but still got the spotlight because they were reportedly entertaining trade offers for Brian Thomas Jr. It didn't take long for the second-year receiver to be linked to several teams, and rightly so..

Even though Thomas has been somewhat disappointing seven games into the season, he had nearly 1,300 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie. That's probably why head coach Liam Coen made it clear the 2024 first-round selection isn't going anywhere.

Coen's remarks should be enough to dismiss any trade chatter involving Thomas. That said, there are other players Jacksonville could deal by the November 4 deadline. With this in mind, here are three Jaguars who could land on the trade block.

Maason Smith, Jaguars defensive tackle

After a strong finish to his rookie campaign, Maason Smith was expected to take the next step. However, he's left much to be desired in Year 2. After logging three sacks in the second half of 2024, he's failed to register one this season. To make matters worse, the former LSU Tiger was a healthy scratch in the opener and hasn't been able to get ahead of veteran DaVon Hamilton on the depth chart. So far, he's played 36 percent of the team's defensive snaps.

Perhaps the coaching staff wants Smith to earn more playing time, but he hasn't done enough to make a strong impression. Already, the new regime has moved on from players it didn't bring in (cornerback Tyson Campbell and running back Tank Bigsby), so nobody would bat if the Jacksonville ends up moving on from the sophomore defensive tackle.

Dyami Brown, Jaguars wide receiver

So now that it's been established that the Jaguars won't be shopping Brian Thomas Jr., maybe teams in need of help at wide receiver will turn their attention to Dyami Brown. Sure, he hauled in eight passes for 109 yards with one touchdown in his first two games wearing the Black & Teal. However, the former North Carolina Tar Heel has cooled down considerably since then, catching just eight passes for 85 yards the past four games.

Granted, Brown dealt with a shoulder injury, but he's been healthier in recent weeks and still has failed to step up. If the Jaguars don't think the fifth-year receiver can put it all together like he did in his last season with the Washington Commanders, they might as well trade him and get whatever compensation they can get in return instead of letting him walk in 2026 for nothing.

Cole Van Lanen, Jaguars offensive lineman

The Jaguars have a pair of solid offensive tackles in Walker Little and Anton Harrison. Sure, both of them have struggled at times, but they've shown they can play at a high level. Maybe they'll get back on track after the BYE. Behind them is Chuma Edoga, who has turned out to be a dependable depth piece inside and outside.

That leaves Cole Van Lanen at the bottom of the offensive tackle depth chart. The fourth-year veteran can line up inside or outside but has only logged 25 offensive snaps this season. Even though he provides versatility up front, his flexibility to play guard and tackle could help him garner interest ahead of the deadline.

When you take into account that Cole Van Lanen was brougth in by the past regime and is in a contract season, it wouldn't be shocking to see him leave at the deadline.
