Leeds United to battle Aston Villa for Spain Under-21 striker – But it could be a costly mistake

Leeds United have struggled to score goals this season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored just once since joining the club, and has been guilty of missing chances, which have already cost the Whites points in the Premier League.

The Yorkshire giants have PSR challenges ahead of the winter window, but the club are keen to be active in the market. They have prioritised signing an attacking midfielder and a winger in January.

However, having a natural goalscorer in the final third would be more beneficial for a Leeds side that lack the cutting edge in the penalty box in the Premier League this season.

It is unclear whether Leeds will get involved in the race for Ivan Toney, whose wage demands are likely to be prohibitive, and the club are now said to be considering bringing in a young forward in the winter transfer window.

Leeds United have their eyes on Aston Villa target Gonzalo Garcia

Gonzalo Garcia’s performances for Real Madrid in the Club World Cup turned heads as he ended the tournament as its top goalscorer with four goals.

Leeds were among the clubs who were considering signing him on loan in the summer, but Real Madrid decided against letting him leave in the last transfer window.

However, the 21-year-old striker has barely played this season. He has made just one start this term and has featured for just 108 minutes.

Garcia could be allowed to leave on loan in the winter transfer window, and Aston Villa are said to be preparing to table an offer to sign him on a permanent deal.

According to other reports, Leeds are also keeping tabs on the young forward ahead of the winter transfer window.

The Whites are likely to try and sign him on loan, which would be Real Madrid’s preferred option over a permanent sale at this stage of his career.

Do Leeds need him?

Calvert-Lewin’s erratic finishing, coupled with the little trust Farke has shown in Lukas Nmecha and Joel Piroe, means Leeds do need another striker in January.

Garcia is a talented young striker, but will he be the right signing for Leeds? I do not think so, given what Leeds need from a new buy in the winter window.

Leeds need someone to hit the ground running and be a consistent goalscorer in the Premier League. However, Garcia can’t be expected to do that.

He is a talented young forward who has all the raw materials to become a top striker, but he is not ready to play for a team that will be in the thick of a survival battle in the second half of the season.

Leeds need a more Premier League-proven or at least an experienced striker who can be a solid alternative to Calvert-Lewin in the starting eleven.

Garcia is far from that kind of finished product at the moment, and Leed should avoid wasting any money on him, given their PSR issues.
