Hammers star returns to competitive football after layoff

IT IS INDEED is a difficult time at [Rush Green](https://www.claretandhugh.info/carsleys-rush-green-visit-prompts-bowen-switch/) training centre for everyone connected with the club: Nuno’s three losses and a draw really haven’t seen a ‘new manager bounce’ and the injuries to Niclas Fullkrug and Konstantinos Mavropanos have highlighted the wafer-thin depth of the West Ham squad.

No news yet on Ollie Scarles who injured his shoulder in the first half meleé against Leeds United and was substituted looking as if he were on oxygen: Mavropanos, though, is likely out for six weeks.

So the news from [exWHUemployee](https://www.thewesthamway.com/2025/10/28/minutes-today-exwhuemployee-george-earthy-injury-update/) that **George Earthy** has returned to training came as a very welcome boost to both fans and I’m sure to Nuno Espirito Santo – and no doubt to the player himself. Earthy has had a bit of a nightmare suffering first an ankle injury that kept him out of Potter’s summer tour of the USA and then a hamstring injury which has sidelined him at a time he’d be desperate to get out there and impress his new coach.

George Earthy to return to competitive football

-----------------------------------------------

Apparently fans who are set up and ready to watch the u21’s take on Swindon tonight will be treated to George Earthy’s comeback as he is set to feature for the academy side as he builds fitness once again. According to Ex:

_“He is unlikely to play the full game but should get some minutes from the start as he looks to build up his match fitness in time for a return to the senior squad. West Ham could do with his energy in midfield so his return is most welcome.”_

Indeed it is. Already a senior capped player, Earthy had a memorable debut under David Moyes when he was stretchered off the pitch after having been knocked out cold: Returning some weeks later he then grabbed a goal in just his second appearance.

And since then his Hammers career has been on ‘pause’ after Lopetegui sent him on a season-long loan at Bristol City. Cannot wait to see him get back to full fitness.
