Philadelphia 76ers starting backcourt make history through first three games of 2025-26 NBA…

The Philadelphia 76ers are one of only four NBA teams left who still haven’t lost a game in this early stage of the 2025-26 season.

While it still early days, that is certainly a positive improvement so far from last year when Philadelphia finished with an underwhelming 24-58 record.

And apart from playing a huge role in their team’s 3-0 start, the Sixers’ starting backcourt duo of Tyrese Maxey and rookie VJ Edgecombe have also created some impressive history.

Per the great @StatsWilliams:

Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe have combined for 186 points this season.

That’s the most points by any starting backcourt through any team's first 3 games of a season since starters were first tracked in 1970-71.

Through the first three games of the year, Maxey and Edgecombe have registered a combined scoring output of 186 points. And as per ESPN’s Tim Bontemps and Matt Williams, that total is the highest points total any starting backcourt has scored in a three game span to open an NBA team’s season, since starting lineups were first tracked in 1970-71.

In Philadelphia’s 136-124 win over the Orlando Magic last night, Maxey broke the 40 point barrier for already the second time this year after he dropped 43 points to go along with his eight dimes, as per NBA.com. Edgecombe also wound up having a stellar outing against Orlando with a 26 point and seven assist display.

Despite Paul George’s absence, and with Joel Embiid still finding his feet after an injury plagued campaign, the 76ers’ dynamic and talented backcourt have stepped up tremendously, and they will look to continue their incredible run when Philadelphia takes on the Washington Wizards tonight on the road in the second game of a back to back.
