The out of work managers Wolves could consider if Pereira is sacked - including ex-Celtic and…

Result was not fair - Wolves boss Vítor Pereira

Wolves may have a decision to make regarding the future of Vitor Pereira if their Premier League form doesn’t improve

Pereira was picked as their replacement for Gary O’Neil last winter and managed to guide them to safety with relative ease in the last campaign. However, things haven’t gone to plan for him this term and his long-term future is up in the air. Here is a look at some potential replacements if he is sacked:

Brendan Rodgers available for Wolves after Celtic exit

Brendan Rodgers is available following his exit from Celtic. The ex-Liverpool and Leicester City man has resigned from his position at Celtic Park. Martin O’Neill has been placed in interim charge of the Glasgow giants along with Shaun Maloney until a permanent successor is found.

Rodgers could be a shrewd option for Wolves if they opted to part ways with Pereira. He knows the league inside out and has proven himself in England in the past. The Northern Irishman is also vastly experienced and will now be weighing up his next move in the game.

Another former Celtic man in Ange Postecoglou is also without a club following his dismissal by Nottingham Forest. The Australian guided Tottenham Hotspur to Europa League glory earlier this year after they beat Manchester United in the final in Sevilla. His time at the City Ground didn’t go to plan though and it will be interesting to see where he ends up next and whether he would be considered if the vacancy at Molineux came up.

Could Wolves go down the Portuguese route again?

Wolves are no strangers to going down the Portuguese route and Carlos Carvalhal is unattached right now. He is most known in this country for guiding Sheffield Wednesday to the Championship play-offs twice before a stint at Swansea City. The 59-year-old has been out of the dugout since cutting ties with SC Braga last summer.

Vitor Bruno is also out of work and is an option. The 42-year-old was handed the FC Porto job back in June last year but after only seven months in January. He will feel he has a point to prove now and will be mulling over what lies in store for him next.

If Wolves don’t dip into the open market in Portugal, there are other names they could look at. Michael Carrick was given the chop by Middlesbrough last year after they missed out on the top six in the second tier. He did a steady job overall at the Riverside Stadium and played at the top level during his playing days with Manchester United.

In addition, O’Neil hasn’t gone anywhere since he was sacked and replaced by Pereira last term. It remains to be seen whether the hierarchy would consider handing him a second crack at the job. In addition, it is unknown whether he would even be interested in a return. Other out of work names are Gareth Southgate, Thiago Motta, Marco Rose, Erik ten Hag, Edin Terzic and Jon Dahl Tomasson.
