Former Duke star Kyle Singler, who was named the Most Outstanding Player at the 2010 Men’s Final Four, has been arrested in Oklahoma.
The 37-year-old was arrested last week after police say he assaulted his girlfriend, according to News9 in Oklahoma City. He has since been released on bond.
Citing police, News9 reports that Kyle Singler was staying at an Airbnb with his girlfriend and their child. His girlfriend reportedly told police that Singler tried to rape her, grabbed her head and pushed her to the ground.
Mitch Dobbs with the Haskell County Sheriff’s Office told News9 that Singler’s girlfriend had marks on her face consistent with his handprint.
A former Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder player, Singler appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and refused to cooperate with police, per an affidavit that News9 obtained.
Kyle Singler was the ACC Rookie of the Year for the 2007-08 season after arriving at Duke as a heralded recruit and McDonald’s All-American. He started all 33 games for the Blue Devils as a freshman, averaging 13.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Singler went on to average 16.5, 17.7 and 16.9 points per game over his next three years.
His best year came in 2009-10 as he put up 17.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while leading Duke to the national championship. The Oregon native shot a career-high 39.9 percent from 3-point range that season.
Singler was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft.
He would go on to spend six seasons in the NBA -- three with the Pistons and three with the Thunder -- before finishing his basketball career overseas.
Singler’s best NBA season came in 2013-14 with the Pistons when he averaged 9.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting 44.7 percent from the field.
