Former NFL QB rips Dillon Gabriel, urges Browns turn to Shedeur Sanders

The Cleveland Browns have been getting hammered this week for their approach to their quarterback situation.

Dillon Gabriel has struggled in his four starts, completing less than 60% of his passes for 702 yards. After their most recent loss to the New England Patriots, he's now 1-3 as a starter.

Many have wondered when head coach Kevin Stefanski will make the switch to Shedeur Sanders, Cleveland's other high-profile rookie quarterback.

Shaun King urges Browns to bench Dillon Gabriel, start Shedeur Sanders

In an appearance on the Ultimate Cleveland Sports show, former NFL quarterback Shaun King ripped into Gabriel and strongly suggested the Browns turn to Sanders.

"Maybe the most egregious pick in all of the 2025 Draft was the Browns picking Dillon Gabriel in the third round. There's no way you can evaluate the quarterback position and have him rated as a higher prospect than Shedeur Sanders," said King.

"That was a terrible draft pick. Now don't accelerate the mistake by continuing down the path that you never should've went down in the first place. It's time to go to Shedeur Sanders simply because he was a better prospect than Dillon Gabriel."

In all fairness to King, most draft analysts did have Sanders rated as a higher quarterback prospect than Gabriel heading into this past April's draft.

It was one of the larger shocks of the entire weekend that the former Colorado standout slid all the way into the fifth round.

For now, Stefanski is sticking with Gabriel, as plainly stated after the Browns' loss to the Patriots.

But if the struggles continue, the cries for Sanders to see the field are only going to get louder.
