Aston Villa will be able to bring in some new faces to bolster their squad in the January transfer window
The Midlands outfit have risen up to 8th in the table and have 15 points on the board. They are back in action this weekend as they aim to keep their momentum going. Emery’s men face an away trip to Anfield to play Liverpool.
Aston Villa linked with Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor
Aston Villa have been left ‘impressed’ by the way Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor has adapted to life in the top flight, as per a report by Football Insider. They have the chance to bolster their ranks in the January transfer window. The Black Cats won’t want to lose the attacker amid potential attention from elsewhere.
Ex-scout Mick Brown has said: “Unfortunately, this is the way it tends to work. If you get promoted from the Championship and start the season strongly, and your players are proving they can impress at this level, it’s going to attract interest.
“It’s a difficult situation for Sunderland, really, because they obviously want to keep these players. Isidor in particular is attracting interest and a lot of top clubs have had scouts watching him. They’ll have been keeping tabs on his performance against Chelsea, because that shows he can do it against the top sides and not just those down the bottom.
“Sunderland experienced it in the Championship last season, with clubs looking at their players. It’s no different now, and whether it’s Isidor or anybody else, I expect they’ll be determined not to lose them after having such a good start.”
Isidor, 25, joined Sunderland last year on an initial loan deal that was later made permanent for just £5million. He is under contract at the Stadium of Light until 2028 so they are under no pressure to sell him anytime soon. The forward has scored 17 goals in 56 games for the North East club in all competitions to date, four of which have come int his campaign.
Would Sunderland’s Wilson Isidor suit Aston Villa?
Aston Villa could see Isidor as someone to boost their attacking department. If he joined, he would give them something different at the top end of the pitch. In addition, he would be ideal competition for Ollie Watkins.
The former France youth international started his career with spells as a youngster with the likes of Rennes and Monaco. The latter loaned him out to Laval and Bastia-Borgo to get some experience under his belt. Lokomotiv Moscow then lured him over to Russia before a spell at Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Sunderland’s decision to land him last year has worked out well for them. He helped them gain promotion from the Championship last term under the guidance of Regis Le Bris and they are now flying high near the top of the Premier League after their eye-catching away win at Chelsea. The Black Cats beat Sheffield United in the play-off final at Wembley back in May.
