The Boston Celtics got off the schneid on Monday night, defeating the New Orleans Pelicans and improving to 1-3 on the young season. After getting crushed on the glass in their previous two defeats against the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons, the Celtics took advantage of a Zion Williamson-less Pelicans group to out-rebound their opponents, 54-35. Still, Boston enters action on Tuesday tied with the Los Angeles Clippers for first in the NBA in opponent’s offensive rebounds per game at 15.3. Having lost centers Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kornet over the offseason, the rebounding concerns likely won’t be going away anytime soon. With that in mind, Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey named Brooklyn Nets big man Nic Claxton as a “realistic” trade target for the Celtics on Tuesday. And it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see them stay relatively shallow and take a gap year in 2025-26,” Bailey wrote. “But if they’re more competitive than expected, boosting the frontcourt would be in order. An Anfernee Simons-for-Nic Claxton swap would do that, while further trimming money off Boston’s books.” Claxton has spent his entire career with the Nets since being selected with the 31st overall pick in 2019. The Georgia product has averaged 10.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game across 25.8 minutes per contest in his career. Simons’ expiring deal could be enticing.” Turner spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Indiana Pacers before signing with the Bucks in July.
