The Denver Broncos, coming off a dominant 44-24 win over the Dallas Cowboys, are looking like one of the clear buyers at the upcoming NFL trade deadline. Their biggest positions of need are at wide receiver and tight end.
While not a trade, the Broncos have already tried making additions to the tight end room, but they missed on two waiver claims, losing Brendan Bates to the Cleveland Browns and Ben Sims to the Minnesota Vikings.
But now, the Broncos and Sean Payton have shifted their attention elsewhere. According to NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo, the Broncos hosted a 41-year-old tight end for a free agent workout to join the active roster in Week 9.

This is a very interesting workout for the Broncos. Marcedes Lewis is 41 years old and would be one of the oldest players in the NFL if the Broncos brought him onto the roster. Only Aaron Rodgers, also at 41 years old, would match Lewis in age if the Broncos sign him.
Lewis is a veteran tight end who's spent the last 19 years in the NFL. He spent the first 12 years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, then joined the Green Bay Packers for the next five years of his career, before landing with the Chicago Bears for the last two seasons.

Across his 19-year NFL career, Lewis has hauled in 437 receptions for 5,115 yards and 40 touchdowns. He was named to the Pro Bowl back in 2010, his fifth season in the NFL. It's the only accolade the veteran tight end has received in his career.
He's played in the playoffs five times, and in 10 games, he's caught 16 passes for 153 yards and one touchdown. If the Broncos do wind up signing him, it'd be his fourth NFL franchise and his 20th season in the NFL.
Reaching 10 seasons is already an impressive enough feat, but Lewis could reach 20 years in the league if Denver decides to sign him. With Nate Adkins hurt and Lucas Krull out for the majority of the year, tight end is a big need for the Broncos.
Adding Lewis is on the table, as the 41-year-old veteran conducted a workout for the Broncos ahead of the team's Week 9 matchup against the Houston Texans.
